Practice Location.

At this time, I am offering my services both in-person and via telehealth. For Telehealth, I use a web-based service through SimplePractice. For specific information or troubleshooting tips, please visit their website: Telehealth by SimplePractice.

My physical office is located on the corners of Buffalo and Geneva streets in Ithaca, NY. It is in an office suite with other healthcare specialists. My office is on the first floor. There are two entrances, with the entrance on Geneva street having a ramp. An accessible restroom is available in the main hallway.

119 W. Buffalo Street is 3 blocks away from the commons in Ithaca, NY, making it very accessible to bus, pedestrian, car, and walking traffic. There is 2-hour street parking located adjacent to the building, both metered (M-F until 6 PM) and non-metered.

I share a waiting area with a few other healing-arts practitioners in the building and you are welcome to stop in to relax in the lobby before our appointment.

If you are experiencing a true emergency, I encourage you to please call the local crisis line at 607.272.1616 or dial 9-8-8.

 Requesting Your First Appointment.

If you are interested in scheduling a consultation with me, please fill out my contact request form.

If I do not currently have availability, I would suggest checking out my Find a Therapist page. Due to the type of clinical work that I do, I do not keep a wait list for individual psychotherapy. On that page, you will find resources to assist you in connecting with another therapist that may have availability right now.

In the case that I have availability in my schedule to take on a new client for individual psychotherapy, I will reach out for a free 15-minute telephone consultation.

  • During that consultation, I will answer any questions you have about my practice and collect some information about your specific goals for therapy so we can both collaboratively assess if it seems like a good match.

  • Other specific information that I may collect during the consultation is up-to-date contact information (phone/email address), your full legal name, date of birth, and other insurance-related information if you are planning to use your benefits.

  • I try to keep my practice as paperless as possible. I use an electronic portal through SimplePractice where you will be able to complete my intake forms, access my practice policies, and process any electronic payments.

  • Before our first meeting, I will verify your insurance benefits ahead of time if I am in-network, or I will be providing you with a Good Faith Estimate if I am out of your insurance network.

Additional Information.

Fees & Insurance.

At this time, I currently participate with Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield, UnitedHealthcare, and Aetna.

Individual sessions run for a “55-minute hour” and my fee is $130, which is due at the time of service. Some sessions, although, may be longer or more or less frequent. When more than 55 minutes are used in one session, I will prorate the additional time based on the 55-minute hourly rate.

Checks can be made payable to: Anthony Johnston LCSW. I also utilize SimplePractice and STRIPE to process credit or debit cards as well.

Cancellation Policy.

If you need to cancel your appointment, I require a 24-Hour notice. Failing to cancel within 24 hours, or not showing for an appointment, will result in you being charged a fee equal to my full fee, or $130.

If we both agree that you were unable to attend due to circumstances beyond your control, the fee may be waived.

Good Faith Estimate Notice.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. For more information, please check out my page about Good Faith Estimates.
